Kristy Owens
Kristy joined Centre Region Parks and Recreation (CRPR) in 2020 as the Recreation Services Manager and was promoted to Director in June of 2023. With over 20 years of experience in the Parks and Recreation field, she has held various leadership roles and demonstrated a strong commitment to community enrichment and program development.
Before joining CRPR, Kristy dedicated over 13 years to Silver Spring Township in Cumberland County, where she served as Assistant Director and later as Parks and Recreation Manager. She brings a wealth of expertise in parks and recreation management, grant acquisition, policy development, park planning and development, program and event coordination, and strategic planning. Her extensive background and leadership continue to enhance the quality and impact of recreational services in the region.
Kristy holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation, Park, and Tourism Management from Pennsylvania State University and an Associate of Applied Science in Physical Fitness Specialization from Pennsylvania College of Technology. She is a Certified Parks & Recreation Professional (CPRP) and a Certified Festival and Event Associate through the National Recreation and Park Association.
With a strong foundation in fitness and recreation, Kristy began her career working with YMCAs and fitness centers before transitioning into parks and recreation leadership. In 2022, she served as Co-Chair for the Pennsylvania Recreation & Park Society (PRPS) State Conference and has been honored with two Presidential Citations and Excellence in Programming awards. These accolades recognize her contributions to community events and developing a "Culture of Health" initiative for summer camps.
Originally from Altoona, Kristy now resides in College Township, where she enjoys an active outdoor lifestyle, including biking, running, hiking, and various sports.
