Background & History
Nestled near the Musser Gap Recreation Area, and between Route 45 and Whitehall Road, lies Whitehall Road Regional Park, 1954 Blue Course Drive Extension, State College. The first 75 acres of this park were purchased in 2008 with assistance from Ferguson Township and the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources as well as municipal funding. Again, with financial assistance from the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and Ferguson Township, and with the municipal funding in place, the remaining 25 acres were acquired in 2011.

  • 2009-2010: The 100-acre park went through an original master planning process.
    • In 2010, COG officially purchased 75 acres and then in 2011 an additional 25 acres was acquired to make it a full 100-acre park.
    • Resolution 2011-4 was signed in March 2011, approving the master site plan and facility upgrades for John Hess Softball Compled, an amendment to the Oak Hall Regional Park master plan and phase I scope, revisions to the Phase I scope of work for Whitehall Road Regional Park, and the regional park development timeline.
    • In 2011, a regional parks loan was secured for the development of the Oak Hall Regional Park and Whitehall Road Regional Park.
  • 2013: The Master Plan for the park was adopted in 2013 and then updated during the creation of the first phase. The design was approved by the Centre Region Parks and Recreation Authority and COG General Forum in 2018, then in 2019, the Land Development Plan was accepted and approved by Ferguson Township.
  • 2020: The parks and recreation agency finalized the budget and hired a Project Manager.
  • On April 27, 2022, a Groundbreaking Ceremony was held and construction followed in the winter of 2022.
  • TODAY - Construction is nearing completion and the Agency anticipates a Grand Opening sometime in the late summer. Additional information on the project can be found HERE.

The approved 2013 Master Plan is included below. It is important to note that master plans provide a framework for future planning and can change as the community's needs change.
