“SWIM SAFETY EVALUATION” Information

Required for participants in these camps: Fly-Fishing, Kayak, Canoe & Boating. Two dates will be schedule (for campers to attend one).  The Safety Evaluation Test is to show that the camper can swim the length of the pool and back without use of a device and tread water for 1 minute without aid or touching the bottom. Technique is not important. This is designed to demonstrate that campers can handle themselves in the water, for example in case a canoe tips or during fly fishing if they fall in the water, the child can swim or float until help arrives. "What if my child has advanced swimming skills?" If you feel your child exceeds these abilities, the Swim Evaluation is waived any of the following situations:

  1. Camper has completed at least Level 4 Swim Lessons with Centre Region Parks & Recreation.
  2. Parents provide a signed note from a lifeguard, swim instructor, or swim coach to verify that they have observed the camper successfully completing the skills listed above.
  3. Camper has successfully completed and can show documentation of completing a Boy Scout or Girl Scout swimming merit badge.
  4. Camper has attended one of these camps in the past and successfully completed this evaluation in a past year.

The waiver documents should be submitted prior to June 1, 2016 to Mandy Maguffey, Program Coordinator. Swim Test details are also noted on receipt at time of registration and will be sent via email to enrolled participants prior to swim test dates.
