Swim Safety Evaluation

The Swim Safety Evaluation is designed to confirm that the camper (for Bass, Trout, Kayak and Canoe Camps) can:

  1. Swim the length of the pool and back without use of a device, and
  2. Tread water for 1 minute without aid or touching the bottom. (Technique is not important).

These skills will demonstrate that each camper can handle themselves safely in the water. For example, in case a canoe tips or during fly fishing if they fall in the water, the child can swim or float until help arrives. Two dates are offered, please attend one:

  • Sunday, June 3, 8 PM at Welch Pool,
  • Sunday, June 10, 8 PM at Park Forest Pool.

What if my child has advanced swimming skills?
If you feel your child's skills exceed these abilities, the Swim Evaluation is waived in these situations:

  1. Camper has completed at least Level 4 Swim Lessons with Centre Region Parks & Recreation.
  2. Parents provide a signed note from a Lifeguard, Swim Instructor, or Swim Coach to verify that they have observed the camper successfully completing the skills listed above.
  3. Camper has successfully completed and can show documentation of completing a Boy Scout or Girl Scout swimming merit badge.
  4. Camper has attended one of these camps in the past and successfully completed this evaluation previously.

The waiver documents must be submitted prior to June 1, 2012 to Molly Hetrick at CRPR.
