CRPR Aquatic Program Policies

  • Classes fill quickly; registration for sequential classes cannot be guaranteed.
  • Classes will be held as scheduled except during electrical storms & facility closings.
  • Please note that makeup sessions for all youth aquatic classes that are cancelled will be scheduled at the same time on the Friday following the cancelled class.
  • Only lesson participants are permitted on the pool deck. Parents and guests must remain in the waiting area.

"Triple O!" (One-on-One) Youth Swim Lessons               Individual Instruction
Individualized swimming instruction for youth ages 5-14! For those youngsters needing extra feedback and personalized attention from our outstanding instructors. Four 30-minute lessons per program with the individual attention to help a youngster become a better swimmer faster.

A water orientation class that will teach a parent how to work safely and effectively with a young child in the water. Skill-appropriate water activities will be included. Fee includes one adult and one toddler.

Preschool
Level 1

• Preschool (ages 3-5)                               Water Adjustment         Group Instruction
Designed for the child to develop a comfort level in the water as well as a readiness for learning how to swim. Children will also receive an introduction into basic swimming skills.
• Youth Level 1 (ages 4-14)                        Water Exploration    Group Instruction
Designed for children just beginning swim lessons who may be uncomfortable in the water. At completion, child will be able to submerge face, float with support, kick with support, and demonstrate very basic water safety skills.
• Youth Level 2 (ages 5-14)                          Primary Skills      Group Instruction
Prerequisite: Preschool or Level 1 with no fear of the water. At completion, child will submerge and retrieve objects, prone float, glide, back float/glide, bob 10 times, perform an “easy” stroke on back and front, turn over, and demonstrate basic water safety skills.
• Youth Level 3 (ages 5-14)                        Stroke Readiness      Group Instruction
Prerequisite: Level 2 or equivalent. At completion, child will bob 15 times, jump into deep water, dive from a kneeling position, demonstrate 10 yards of front and back crawl, elementary backstroke kick and basic water safety skills.
• Youth Level 4 (ages 5-14)                    Stroke Development   Group Instruction
Prerequisite: Level 3 or equivalent. At completion, child will demonstrate a standing front dive, elementary backstroke, front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke and sidestroke kicks, tread water and water safety skills.

Levels 4-6

• Youth Level 5 (ages 5-14)                 Stroke Refinement       Group Instruction
Prerequisite: Level 4 or equivalent. At completion, child will demonstrate 50 yards of front crawl and back crawl, 10 yards of breaststroke and sidestroke, 25 yards of elementary backstroke, butterfly kick, turns, diving from board and water safety skills.
• Youth Level 6 (ages 5-14)               Skill Proficiency         Group Instruction
Prerequisite: Level 5 or equivalent. At completion, child will demonstrate approach and hurdle on the diving board, 100 yards of front and back crawl, 25 yards of breaststroke, sidestroke, approach stroke, 10 yards of butterfly stroke, flip turns, surface dives and water safety skills.
• Youth Level 7 (ages 5-14)                 Advanced Skills       Group Instruction
Prerequisite: Level 6 or equivalent. At completion, student will demonstrate a springboard dive, 200 yards of front crawl, 100 yards of back crawl, 50 yards of breaststroke and sidestroke, 25 yards of butterfly, 15 yards of underwater swimming, backstroke, flip turns, water rescue, competitive starts and basic water rescue.

Summer 2012 SWIM TEAMS at Welch & Park Forest Pools

Lifeguarding (American Red Cross Certification)

This course will provide the skills and information necessary to become a professional lifeguard. Candidates must be 15 years of age (by April 21) and pass a pre-test of swimming skills. The skills will include (1) a 300 yard continuous swim with 100 yards of front crawl, 100 yards of breaststroke, and 100 yards of either crawl or breaststroke, (2) a surface dive to 10 feet to recover a 10 pound object, and (3) a 20-yard swim with a 10 pound object. Successful candidates will receive certifications in Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR for the professional rescuer (which includes adult, child, infant and AED).
