Hello and welcome to the 2012 Winter & Spring CRPR Active Guide. Once again the Parks & Recreation staff brings you a diverse and exciting array of programs and special events to start your new year off right. What is your interest? Whether you are 3 or 83 or you want to exercise your body or mind, we offer what you are looking for - just take a look inside.
2011 marked a big year with many capital projects being completed and others beginning the development phase. In April, the new Spring Creek Education Building at Millbrook Marsh Nature Center was dedicated with a Grand Opening celebration. The new 2-story building will provide much needed flexible space for education and recreation.
In May, the renewed Welch Pool opened with two new pools, including a current channel, vortex, 2 water slides, splash pad and hours of summer fun. The summer of 2011 was the best in attendance and confirmed how much the community appreciated the new facilities.
During the past year, the Regional Parks Initiative continued to develop with the approval of the Master Plan for Oak Hall Regional Park and the Park Development Timeline. John Hess Softball Field Complex opened in June with over $300,000 in safety improvements which lead to a busy summer with 741 softball games being played at the newly improved facility.
In 2011 the CRPR staff welcomed Jim Carpenter to the position of Parks Supervisor. Jim comes to us from the Akron, OH area, where he served as Chief of Operations for Summit County MetroParks. We are excited to have Jim on staff; if you see him out at the parks, please make sure you say hi.
