During 2002:
► On
behalf of the 5 participating municipalities, CRPR operated
and maintained 525 acres of municipal parkland at 44 sites.
► The
CRPR office processed 35,222 customer financial transactions
(registrations and reservations) with revenue totaling $513,274.
► The
agency issued a total of 836 group reservation permits for
16 picnic pavilions (6-month season).
► Park
Forest and Welch Community Swimming Pools hosted 66,451 visits
(recreational, instructional, competitive) during the 100-day
summer swim season.
► Millbrook
Marsh Nature Center hosted 4,709 program visits, a 25% increase
over attendance in 2001. Since the nature center opened in
1997, every $1 of municipal contributions has generated $4
of other resources (donations, grants, services).
► The
Centre Region Senior Center served 3,486 noon-time meals and
hosted 24,497 program visits.
► Scores
of volunteers continue to provide valuable services to the
community by coaching youth sport teams, assisting at the senior
center and nature center, and helping to improve the municipal
parks as “Park Partners,” on “Spring Spruce-Up
Day,” and on the “Day of Caring.”
► Funds
for 41 “Remembrance Trees” were donated to the CRPR
Gifts-For-Parks program for planting during 2002, the highest
number since the program was initiated in 1994. Donations for
planting a total of 203 trees have been made since the program
began.
► The
Commonwealth awarded the Centre Regional Recreation Authority
a 1-year “PA. Conservation Corps” grant valued at
$80,000. In addition, the COG General Forum unanimously approved
submitting a state grant application in the amount of $717,275
to fully fund the purchase of two 75-acre tracts from Penn
State for future development as municipal parklands for active
recreation.
► The
CRPR website continues to grow in popularity as an avenue of
information regarding Centre Region parks, programs, and special
events. An analysis of the web server log files reveals that
the CRPR website hosted
214,886 hits from 15,074 visitors during 4thQ 2002
(Oct. 1 - Dec. 31), with an average of 163 visitors per day.
