Question 8 – As we plan for two new regional parks, what other suggestions or comments would you like to share with us?

    • Other than PSU courts, there is not another covered tennis court in the area. Also some lit community courts would be a good incentive to encourage play into the evening.
    • Accessible 'to' parks via bike paths!
    • Add more bike paths to get to the new parks
    • Additional dog space. The tudek enclosed area is too small and too muddy
    • Additional year round sports facilities outdoors and indoors are needed.
    • Adequate parking on-site or closely is important. When families come to watch their children play sports often the parking intrudes on park land.
    • adult space for when the kids are playing
    • Advertise league information more publicaly
    • An indoor complex for use year round.
    • An indoor soccer facility for this area is necessary.
    • an indoor tennis facility would really be great
    • Also there never seems to be enough field space for soccer etc.
    • An indoor, all-weather tennis facility would be a great addition to the Centre Parks and Recreation offerings.
    • An R/C Airfield will be very inviting to spectators and encourage family participation and physical science education opportunities far beyond the pilots and their families.
    • Another reminder of safety, especially for the young and the elderly
    • Another soccer field in Ferguson township would be ideal. There are a lot of school age children who live out here too (not just in town).
    • Areas that the whole family, children, grand children can all enjoy--the play area would have safe play things that would be attractive.
    • As a mom of two kids who play soccer and volleyball, I have seen a great need for more of both of those types of facilities.
    • As a parent of 2 young children, I have been very happy with the outdoor parks available to us. In fact, I've been surprised that they are not used much at all during the daytime. I would love to see more indoor-family/community options available as soon as possible
    • As you add fields for sports, perhaps make the fields multipurpose. Provide bleachers for spectators and benches for teams (like Houserville Elem. fields)
    • At least ONE tennis court in the Centre Region be faced in the correct position to the sun
    • baseball/softball fields
    • Bathrooms would be nice to be included.
    • Bathrooms!
    • Build more Tennis courts
    • Centre Region needs an alternative indoor tennis facility.
    • clean restrooms, working water fountains, playground equipment for all ages, swings, bike paths, trash cans, water fountains and/or access to water, i.e. stream, pond, etc.
    • complete restroom facilities....not port-o-lets
    • Complete Shamrock Ave. park!
    • Connect existing parks with a bike path.
    • Connect it with a bike path. Connect the Oak Hall land to the park on other side of bypass. Thus, offer wide variety of activities from sport fields to nature walk & gardens.
    • Connect the park to bike/walking paths so people can get to them without cars
    • Connect to bike paths for access!!!
    • Environmental design of any facilities, including less impervious surface
    • Connect to existing commuter bike paths for gas-free transport
    • connecting new parks to existing bike path infrastructure
    • Connection to bike paths in the areas, open space should be a top priority
    • covered tennis courts for year round play would be ideal
    • Cross country skiing would be unique and fun. I suggest you utilize the benefits of the particular natural areas - sledding if there's a hill, etc.
    • Current parks are already wonderful. I would like to see some more nature/walking trails that go thru wooded areas.
    • Definitely lit tennis courts. In these times of hectic schedules, the only time left on a daily basis to enjoy the facilities of the parks is at night, so lighting is definitely important!
    • Definitely more lighting for evening use.
    • Design features that could be used in winter months
    • Make trails or areas that are dog walker friendly
    • Continue installing ecofriendly items - benches, etc. from recycled materials
    • Despite your good efforts, there is still a shortage of active-rec facilities, and building the proposed regional parks would 1) enhance our community and 2) provide opportunities to grow the Centre Region's tourism industry.
    • Dog park
    • drinking water, restrooms, less mowed areas - more natural growth
    • encourage access by other than cars: bike route, bus stop, sidewalks
    • Expand to Halfmoon twp
    • field that has no shade trees
    • Finish Welch Pool first!
    • Full size baseball fields are in short supply for the amount of interest in the area.
    • Have a remote control flying site!
    • Have plans to keep the parks clean and safe. Everyone who uses the parks should help keep them clean. Senior citizens should feel safe using the parks.
    • Have the park be near a bicycle path.
    • Having parks in walking distance is ideal.
    • How about an outdoor ice skating rink?
    • I am extremely interested in another dog park that is closer to my house. I live by the Nittany Mall and have to travel across town to get there.
    • I believe the area could use more soccer fields since the sport has become more popular in recent years, especially locally for young children.
    • I didn't list a swimming pool because you are already remodeling Park Forest and Welch, but if you have any extra money, we could always use another swimming pool, maybe even an indoor one or how about an ice rink???
    • I do worry about how much traffic it would generate. Oakhall is pretty busy without added traffic that a park might cause.
    • I like the idea of adding lighting to use facilities after dark, especially with the time of year when darkness comes early.
    • I live in Pine Grove Mills and would like a park/playground within walking distance with bike paths
    • I love Spring Creek park, the creek makes it unique!
    • Please, use better playground equipment.
    • I love the layout of Spring Creek park....truly lovely. This would be a wonderful thing to reproduce in the other parks
    • I love the Tudek Dog Park and it has been popular. I would love to see another dog park in the area!
    • I oppose the building of tennis courts and basketball courts in small parks, as they take away from the green space available, and often draw in an older crowd that often does not mesh well with children and/ or seniors.
    • I suggest getting more soccer fields, lighted, one with artificial turf and one without, and democratizing Center Soccer Association.
    • I think dogs should not be allowed on park premises due to their 'calling cards' which don't mix well children and park activities.
    • I wish that at least one of those two parks involves some water such as creek or pond
    • I would enjoy having a remote control airfield in a local park.
    • I would like to see a rather large park on Whitehall Road instead of more students housing. I would also like to see lighting so that people can play tennis, etc at night.
    • I would like to see the entire bicycle path system be connected in a safe manner that avoids dangerous intersections like the one at College Ave and Blue course Drive.
    • I’d create facilities that require as little upkeep as possible. Tennis and bball courts require annual upkeep. Soccer fields do not need as much.
    • If a park is planned for the area along Whitehall Rd. and the end of Blue Course Dr., a traffic light is a must. Traffic is already a major problem at that intersection which currently only has a stop sign.
    • If pavilions are included, build them to include a small kitchen and restroom as part of the structure.
    • Make trails wide enough to allow walkers and others to use so there are no safety issues.
    • If there is any way for some more indoor sports facilities that would really make a big difference.
    • If you make some kind of walking/jogging track or area, can you provide mile markers showing how long it is?
    • I'm mostly interested in parks for children.
    • I'm sure that whatever you decide, we'll add them to the list to use.
    • I'm thrilled. With so much acreage and two locations, there should be plenty of unspoiled beauty, yet plenty of room for a large range of activities.
    • in my opinion, we very much need more swimming pools in the region
    • Include all local leagues i.e. SC Football, Centre Soccer, Centre Bulldogs, Little League and the SC School District
    • include indoor tennis courts
    • Indoor courts for the winter months
    • indoor tennis
    • Indoor tennis courts (bubbles or such).
    • Indoor tennis courts (paid membership preferences)
    • indoor tennis courts and lighted tennis courts are needed
    • Indoor tennis courts are extremely expensive and not readily available. Penn State has consistently been destroying their outdoor tennis courts and there's a need for more of those too.
    • Indoor tennis courts for the winter months
    • Indoor tennis courts please!
    • Indoor tennis facility
    • Indoor Tennis facility
    • Indoor tennis facility. During the winter, State College's only indoor tennis facility is monopolized by PSU tennis teams (2-7 PM M-F and weekend events). This limits opportunities for junior players and residents alike.
    • indoor tennis - for year round tennis
    • Indoor tennis is currently a scarce commodity and would be a nice addition to the community.
    • indoor tennis with outdoor lighting
    • Indoor tennis would be a major hit
    • Indoor tennis would be great!
    • Indoor, year round tennis courts.
    • indoor tennis courts
    • It would be great if the outdoor lighted tennis courts could be used all year round! Right now, all we have are the State College High School courts and the ones that have ample light are usually being used.
    • It would be great to have an awesome football field, with lights and bleachers and scoreboard!
    • It would be great to have ball fields that are free that is you don't have to sign up to use them; children could have pick up games.
    • It would be great to have indoor tennis courts to play in winter.
    • It would be nice if it had indoor tennis courts.
    • It would be nice to have a summer theatre program with an outdoor amphitheater. I feel a rock wall for bigger kids and adults would go over well in this area.
    • It would be nice to include lighted and indoor tennis courts.
    • It would be nice to provide lighting at night so people could enjoy sports in the evening hours.
    • Just once I'd like to play on a softball field that I considered well maintained. If you don't have the staff to keep the lawns mowed and gullies/rocks off the field, then it's not worth so much.
    • keep families activity by hosting group activities
    • Keep it simple
    • Keep the land from being developed! A toilet would be convenient; composting toilet would be cool.
    • Keep up the good work. Thank you. We love our parks.
    • Keep us connected with the progress; include as many voices as possible (realize it can't be all things to all people) but at least listen
    • Labyrinth
    • Large parks such as those being planned are very important. But it is equally important to preserve or
    • Develop smaller pockets of open/green space within our neighborhoods.
    • lighted soccer field would be great
    • Lighted and/or year-round tennis courts.
    • Lighted soccer fields, indoor soccer facilities
    • Lighted soccer for fall
    • Lighted tennis courts
    • Lighting would be great for a dog park, playground and basketball courts because it gets so dark in fall but it's still warm enough to be outside. Keep the parks that are lit open after dusk maybe until 10 PM.
    • Like to have distance marked on walking/running paths, lights, and would like to have somewhere to practice putting and chipping. Bathroom facilities and water fountains. merry-go-round
    • Living in the Borough and being a conscientious dog owner, I would really like to be able to walk my dog in borough parks.
    • longer bicycling trails for safety
    • Lots and lots of soccer fields. The fields at parks are too bumpy, like cow fields.
    • 'make more facilities usable during winter'
    • make more sports fields available for kids to use
    • make parking convenient, make them lighted
    • Make parks dog friendly. Even if there is not a specific dog area . . . allows dogs in the park on leads.
    • Enforce responsible dog ownership but allow responsible dog owners the ability to spend an afternoon in the park with their four legged friends.
    • Make sure it has adequate lighting in the restrooms, the ones at Spring Creek park needs some lights.
    • Make sure you have plenty of parking, that is a problem at many of the parks we attend for soccer - not enough parking
    • Make them accessible from residential areas via bike paths.
    • Minimize impact on water quality.
    • Minimize impact on storm water flows.
    • more adult fitness facilities
    • More disc golf courses will definitely bring me out to other parks more than once a week.
    • More quality soccer fields.
    • More soccer fields
    • More soccer fields
    • More soccer fields and indoor volleyball / soccer facilities. Concentrate on developing new spaces and maintaining existing facilities over modifying the current parks.
    • More soccer fields are the highest priority for our household. Ideally, we need a network of small- to medium-size facilities rather than massive sites like the PSU intramural fields.
    • More soccer fields with toilet facilities. Maybe concession stands where the park receives 30% of the profit but the sport club has the choice whether to man the stand or not. They would have to give a plan.
    • More soccer fields, lighting would be a really nice feature. We could host soccer tournaments, which would bring additional money to the area.
    • More soccer fields, with lights, please! We could definitely use another dog park other than just at Tudek. Sometimes it is packed there!
    • More sports fields, some with lights and turf. hiking/walking trails
    • Most European parks and those in New Zealand consisted of sports plus gardens, most commonly rose gardens with benches and pavilions. Most also have a water feature
    • Multi use is always a good idea and shared parking, enough parking for daily use but also for the once-a-month-type events like tournaments, large picnics etc. Most importantly I feel that any money spent on parkland should be fenced, monitored and control
    • My kids are really into soccer. More fields and lights for night games would be a great addition. This would allow for more time between games (between age groups).
    • My only thought is that there aren't enough football fields. There are lots of soccer, tennis and basketball but I can only think of a handful that have football fields and none of them have stands
    • Need an attraction for older middle school-high school kids; this would probably require lighting as they would congregate in the evening
    • Need more available soccer fields
    • need more lighted tennis courts and indoor tennis courts
    • New parks are nice, but increasing the usage of the others is important also. My suggestions for Suburban Park would accomplish that to some degree.
    • open spaces for sporting events, remote control planes, an amphitheatre for music and performances
    • our region needs more winter outdoor facilities/activities
    • parks should be more inviting for teens, adolescents to meet other than in organized sports
    • Pedestrians deserve to be separate from bikes & other wheeled things.
    • It can be very intimidating to share walking space with conveyances.
    • Penn State Tennis Center fees are extremely high limiting use by many! In addition, the # of indoor courts is very inadequate. The varsity teams utilize them during many and also during the best hours to play.
    • People who fly radio-controlled airplanes have a difficult time finding places to participate in this kind of activity.
    • Plan for continued growth of the region and try to get the land now that we will need 20 to 30 years in the future when it might not be available but you do a nice job already. Thank you.
    • Plan for lots of kids - big areas to climb and play on. Disappointed in some of the small play areas or apparatus for kids to climb and play on.
    • Please add more lighted tennis facilities
    • Please allow reunions and picnics to have alcohol. As long as everybody is responsible adults, I don't see the problem.
    • Please consider open space preservation to keep the country feel of our town. In particular, please keep the vista of Mt. Nittany open with the Oak Hall property. Would like to have a park with cross country skiing.
    • Please create indoor tennis courts
    • Please don't fill it with playing fields! Older citizens deserve spaces designed for them, too.
    • Please don't have the entire park area mowed. Tudek is one of the region's most beautiful parks and one thing that make it so is that the mowed areas are interspersed with woodlands and meadows.
    • Please keep up the planning with public input: good job
    • Please leave Welch Pool in its current Parkway location.
    • Please make sure that there are separate areas for toddlers to play as well as older children. Additional soccer fields would also be great-State College has a large soccer following.
    • Please plan for aesthetics, safety, and cater to younger and older children
    • please solicit feedback from teenagers and preteens in the community -- outreach to them to determine what their needs / desires are
    • Please, please have real indoor bathrooms.
    • Preserve the area of the park. I have seen part of Haymarket be taken over by a school. We need the green space preserved for park use.
    • Provide for informal spaces as well as for organized sports.
    • Put in some larger soccer fields.
    • Recommend a softball, lighted quad-plea of fields; public restrooms for users; walking and biking trail around the perimeter of each park; park linked by biking trail to other Centre Region bike paths.
Remember children and teens and all the use they could get out of parks with sports fields, play equipment and winter activities.
    • Restrooms!!
    • Should be one on the north end and one on the south end
    • Skateboard park would be a great assets
    • Soft surface trail, wading pools, water fountains (for drinking and the play variety) and bathroom facilities that is open year round.
    • Some thought should be given for an enclosed facility for use during inclement weather
    • Something for older children, teens, and adults that like... radical obstale courses, paint ball, ropes and other challenge courses, how about adult size slides, a water park, outdoor adventure type stuff that builds team work.
    • Space needed for larger size soccer fields. Fields like Homestead baseball doesn't really get used. More consistent mowing is needed for current fields.
    • Spring Creek park is very inviting and useful, my family visits regularly. I wish there was a walking/nature trail that encircled the park though.
    • Stages to bring performances to the parks
    • tennis can be played and used by all ages from the very young to very old age
    • tennis courts are impossible to find that are lit and not being used for lessons or tennis team practice or games
    • Tennis courts that could be used year round
    • Tennis facilities for winter play indoors -- maybe a bubble over some courts. This is something that is woefully missing -- and would be very much appreciated -- in the region.
    • Tennis facilities which allowed year-round use would be very desirable. Courts tend to have nets down during the winter and the light precludes evening play in late fall and winter. Year-round classes could then be taught.
    • Thank you for adding more parks! We especially seem to be short on soccer fields.
    • Thanks!
    • The area could definitely benefit from having indoor tennis courts available. I play at PSU's tennis center, and find indoor court time difficult to come by in the winter months, when competing with the tennis teams.
    • The Centre Region is in desperate need of Soccer fields in order to host tournament. The Fogleman Fields were a great start, let’s get some more in this area so we can host Soccer Tournaments.
    • The Centre Region needs additional indoor tennis courts for year-round use. The tennis club at Penn State is lacking in size, facilities, and service, and cannot accommodate the needs of tennis players in the area.
    • The closer to town the better. People do not want to drive 20 minutes+ to go to their child's soccer games.
    • The desirability of having a Radio Control Airfield
    • The east side of town needs a swimming pool.
    • the public pools are very over crowded
    • there are not enough soccer fields to accommodate all who want to play in town
    • There is a clear need for more dog park areas. Tudek Dog Park gets used way over what it can handle as evidenced by the lack of grass. I have been too many other dog parks that seem to be able to hold the grass - matter of fact, it flourishes.
    • There is a great park in Germantown, MD near the MD soccer complex that has a great playground/park area. They have all sorts of things besides swings/slides. I think that if we could get something like that here it would be great!
    • There is a tremendous need for indoor tennis facilities. The Penn State Tennis Center is inadequate and many members are dissatisfied with the limited availability and high expense of the facility.
    • There is one thing that should not be in a park: commercials or for-fee things.
    • Please: No advertising or sponsored signs or placards.
    • There is only one indoor tennis facility in this part of the state, and unless Penn State enlarges it, it isn't large enough to accommodate everyone who plays, especially since it is shared with the tennis teams.
    • There is only one tennis court available with lights and if these parks had tennis courts with lights, it would provide more places to play.
    • There seems to be an increasing shortage of playing fields in the area and with the increasing interest in soccer, lacrosse and other sports we will need to add more fields for the kids to use.
    • These spaces are more rural. Please preserve the integrity of the present communities. There is no need to pollute the night sky with lights and pave every inch of these parks.
    • They must be Dog Friendly!!! More poop and scoop stations and maintain more bikes paths for winter uses. People still run in the winter.
    • Things like a disc course (Frisbee golf) seem relatively inexpensive, yet offer different, fun activities. Facilities (bathrooms) are very important. Anything that adds beauty and utility will help make our communities stronger
    • Think about and provide special events, as a few parks already have. Ex Central Parklet
    • This area needs an indoor tennis and rec. area
    • This area needs indoor tennis courts that are available to the entire community. The only indoor courts in SC are at PSU and they are for members only
    • This community is desperate for indoor courts. These would pay for themselves via tournaments and private lessons,
    • This town has an active tennis community, but there is no place to play in the winter. It's really a shame. The Penn State courts are very expensive and not very accommodating. It's difficult to get court time, even if you are willing to pay their exorbitant rates
    • Trails around playgrounds but, within a field of vision really mak.e the area more useful for varied ages.
    • Try to find a balance between plenty of activities without crowding the park too much.
    • Tudek dog park is heavily used - could really use more space and space that is lighted for use during fall and winter evenings.
    • We are in dire need of additional soccer fields. Additional Bike paths/trails would also be nice.
    • We are in great need of more indoor tennis facilities.
    • We desperately need year round tennis courts in this area. The PSU tennis center is so limited by space for our youth. Many areas have the courts with the bubble over them for year round use. Our community needs this!!
    • We don't have a zoo, an amusement park or a water park in the area. These would be nice, kid-friendly additions to Centre County.
    • We don't have any community tennis courts that we can use all year around and it would really be a nice addition.
    • We have 4 indoor tennis courts at PSU for the entire Centre Region. Five months of the year, they are booked solid. If you 'bubble' or cover some tennis courts, they will be SO popular. There is no place to go in the cold weather except PSU
    • We just moved to State College from Bar Harbor, Maine this year. Thank you in advance for the two new parks! Parks are so important and appreciated.
    • We mostly take our grandchildren to the different playground areas which seemed to be used by lots of young families. If a park has lots of natural beauty, it will be used more by everyone.
    • We moved here 3 months ago and I am glad that a new park is being considered. We moved from Florida where they have soccer, football, tennis, baseball, softball, walking trails and a playground all in the same area, it is very nice.
    • We need more biking/running trails connecting our neighborhoods with the parks. The trails (including the ones we already have) need to be more bike friendly - with over or under passes.
    • We need more parks with facilities for sports, soccer in particular.
    • We need more soccer fields
    • we need more soccer fields
    • We need more soccer fields.
    • we really love the parks system in SC, more of the same with whatever seems to be missing from what is currently available
    • We really need a skate park, one that is open to scooters.
    • We really need centralized facilities to address the growing youth sports/recreation demands, the ability to attract and host tournaments, and the need for a safe and enjoyable area to promote family recreation and leisure activities.
    • We really need more swimming pools for adults and kids
    • We should have indoor tennis courts here. We should also have platform tennis courts. There used to be some platform tennis courts but they have been torn down.
    • We would love to have a park in State College area that had covered, lit tennis courts for year round use.
    • While ballfields are important, they should not dominate the plan. Big open multi-use fields are a better approaches they allow kite flying, remote controlled aircraft use, etc.
    • winter tennis courts
    • With all of the land that is still open now, it seems appropriate to put some aside for parks and recreation.  No one wants to see a rural area covered with buildings and hardly a tree or open field in site.
    • With the growth of youth football, consideration should be given to additional field areas with ample parking and lighting for extended daily use. Also, an indoor space would be a premium if it could be worked into a plan.
    • Would it be possible to walk to the Oak Park from Mt. Nittany Middle School? That would be great.
    • Would love to have more high quality softball/baseball fields, possibly with a fence. Consideration for spectators would be appreciated and space for players to safely warm-up before games is always at a premium.
    • year round lit tennis courts
    • Year round tennis facilities
    • Year round tennis facilities would be great. More classes/organized groups for different adult sports would be great too.
    • You guys do a fantastic job...and it makes me love this town so much more! Providing spaces like this really does wonders for the body, mind and soul. Thank you so much for your good work and dedication.
