Winter & Spring Cabin Fever Walks

These family-friendly hikes, part of the CRPR Explorer’s Series, are a great way to get out and stretch your legs during the winter! Join a nature center naturalist to explore Millbrook Marsh in winter and get some fresh air. The hike will include simple activities on the trail for all ages to enjoy. In case of severe weather, walks will be cancelled. Advance registration is required.

Adult Marsh Exploration

Come and walk the full loop around Millbrook Marsh Nature Center with a naturalist and learn about this dynamic ecosystem. This calm, non-strenuous walk is designed for adults, not for children, and is a great way to learn more about Millbrook Marsh! Advance registration required.

Winter Full Moon Walk

All ages are welcome for this fun winter night walk at Millbrook Marsh Nature Center! Like our popular summer Full Moon Walks, you will experience the night in a whole new way! These non-scary walks will include activities that encourage participants to be comfortable out at night, enjoy night sounds, learn about night creatures, and more! Activities can be enjoyed by big kids as well as the little ones. Dress for the weather! Advance registration is required.

Organic Gardening Workshops

Dr. Gene Bazan will lead these workshops on organic vegetable production. His principles and tips will be useful to beginning and intermediate organic gardeners and also conventional gardeners who might like to convert to organic and wish to learn how. Two workshops are being offered; both will include similar information so please register for only one. In the late spring, Gene and his wife Tania will host a garden walk for attendees at their home in Lemont where they grow 90% of their vegetables year round and 60% of their fruit (home garden visit dates to be determined). Advance registration is required.

Introductory Bird Identification Class

Come during your lunch break and learn the basics of bird identification with Mark Henry, leader of the MMNC Early Morning Bird Walks. This class will meet three times during lunch, so bring a brown bag lunch with you to eat as you learn! This class will cover bird identification, basic birding techniques, and a fun setting to become a better bird-watcher. After the class is completed, participants will have the basic skills needed to venture out and begin birdwatching and identifying birds on their own. Mark, an avid lifetime birdwatcher, is a detailed, patient teacher who has taught birdwatching classes for years and has traveled extensively looking for birds. Advanced registration is required. Classes are held rain or shine.

Birds and Bagels Program

Saturday April 28 at 9 AM. Join us for an enjoyable morning of birds and bagels! We’ll start with refreshments in the Spring Creek Education Building, then venture out into the marsh for a bird walk. After the walk, we’ll return to the Marsh for an informational bird presentation, all led by Justine and Drew Weber, local bird enthusiasts. No registration is required, program will last approximately 2 hours and is open to birders of any age or experience level. This program is free but donations are greatly appreciated.
